As a life-long animal lover and a small animal veterinarian for over 30 years, I know how important pets are to their owners and yet how short our pet’s lives can be. In 2020, I left veterinary practice to focus on creating unique and special memories of our special pets that will be enjoyed long after we have to say good-bye.
I became a Certified Professional Photographer in March of 2021, an Accredited Professional of Animal Imagery in April of 2022 and received my Master of Photography and Master Artist degrees in January of 2023.
Through custom photography and one of a kind hand-rendered mixed media fine art, I will help you celebrate and remember your pets and the very personal bond you have together. Whether you are currently sharing your life with your special pet or they have already crossed over the Rainbow Bridge, I can help create memorable works of art that you will cherish for many years to come.
Mixed Media Fine Art Portraits
I create custom mixed-media artwork using photographs with digital brushes, pixels and custom brushwork instead of physical brushes and oil paint, No filters or short-cuts, I use individual brush strokes and my unique style to turn your pet’s photo into a hand-painted fine art portrait meant to last a lifetime.
I can work from existing photos of your pet that you provide (even cell phone images!) or photos I take for you in a photo shoot. If you wish to order a fine art portrait but do not have a suitable image, I can offer a brief reference photo session to get an image to use.
These custom painted portraits also make wonderful personalized gifts.
Professional Pet Portrait Photography
Your pet has personality and I love finding the perfect shot to showcase it. Based in the Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota metro area, I offer both studio and on-location indoor and outdoor photo sessions featuring portraits as well as action images. I can use both natural light as well as off-camera lighting to capture the best quality images of your pet.
Sessions are individually planned to maximize good lighting and unique portraits. If you wish to schedule a photo shoot, or have more questions, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org
I look forward to helping you create beautiful memories!
How do I order a custom painted fine art portrait?
If you wish to commission a mixed media art portrait, please email me and let me know you are interested. I will have you send several of your favorite photos of your pet(s). The best photos have good resolution, are not blurry, and are either headshots or a full body pose where the pet is up close in the image. If you do not have any suitable photos of your pet, I can do a brief portrait session to obtain a suitable reference image for an additional charge. If you supply the photo, I will need the original photo file without any cropping or applied filter effects. I will help you decide on the best way to showcase your pet’s portrait-whether on fine art paper or canvas.
What does a custom fine art portrait cost?
Due to the inherent nature and customization of these products, pricing is based on numerous factors such as time expected to create the portrait, number of subjects, complexity of image, size of completed print, and matting/framing options. I offer graphite-look portraits (similar to a pencil drawing) and color painted portraits. I will give you a quote for the portrait once I know what image(s) we choose, how you want it printed, matted and framed and any other customization. Most commissions start at $400. I require payment for the painting creation service before I begin painting and the balance of the payment before I order the product you select. I accept cash, checks, Mastercard and Visa.
When do I get the finished art?
After I have painted the portrait to a certain point, I will send you a “proof” which is a close approximation of what the finished piece will look like. This will allow you to visualize it before I finalize the finer details. I want to ensure you will be satisfied with the image, background, and the style I am using. Once you approve the proof and submit the final payment, I will finish the portrait and submit the art to my professional lab for printing and framing if selected.
Turnaround time is 2-3 weeks for most commissions. If I have a high number of commissions at once, they will be done in the order I receive them and there may be a longer turnaround time.
When can I schedule a portrait session?
Portrait sessions are now available. Please email me if you want to schedule a session or if you have further questions.
What does a portrait session cost?
A portrait session includes a pre-session consultation, a 1 to 1 1/2 hour portrait session, the initial basic editing of the images and a design/ordering session in-person or virtual. A non-refundable creation fee of $225.00 is paid at the time of scheduling the session. Additional fees for mileage outside of a designated area may apply. No products are included in the session fee.
What products are available to order?
At your design and ordering session, you will view a gallery presentation of the best 25-30 images from the session. From those images, I am happy to help you select your favorite images for canvas or metal wall art as well as albums, image boxes, prints and collages. As I sincerely believe these special images are meant to be printed, I do not offer digital products for sale. However, I want you to be able to share your most special images with others, so a complimentary watermarked web size digital file will be included with any image included in a purchased product.
Product pricing available on request. Please email for further information.
Participating in image competition is an important goal for not only attaining my Master of Photography and Master Artist degrees from the Professional Photographers of America (PPA), but also for advancing my photography skills and image creation abilities. This helps me create the very best art and images for you.
In 2021, I achieved the highest medal award in PPA's International Print Competition by having all eight of my entries earn the Imaging Excellence designation and being awarded Double Diamond Photographer of the Year status. An honor I was thrilled to achieve in my first year of competition.
In addition, these images are also entered in a variety of state and affiliate group image competitions throughout the year leading up to the IPC. Several of my images have earned additional awards and trophies including my image "Delivery at Dawn" which not only earned a perfect score of 100 at the Animal Image Maker's competition in April of 2021 but also a Judge's Choice Award and first place in the Baby Animals category.
In 2022, I was fortunate to again achieve a Diamond Photographer of the Year award for my four Photographic Open images. I earned a Gold Artist of the Year award for my four artist images, two of which also achieved the Image Excellence designation. In addition, I was also delighted to have received my first two Grand Imaging Award Top Ten finalist designation with my images "Son of the Serengeti" and "The Ancient Mariner". This is truly an honor in the photographic industry.
